Open Studio (Textile)
Now that we’re in the new building, we’re experimenting with some less-structured programming. Welcome to Open Studio! A time where community members can come to connect and work on projects with some guidance from facilitators. The theme for this winter’s Open Studio is textiles: come and learn how to sew simple things, repair your clothing or hem your pants! Or come and learn how to crochet or knit. We will have some supplies on hand, but feel free to bring the projects you’re working on to be in company with others while sipping on a hot tea or coffee.

Newcomer Artist Training
Mabelle Arts’ Welcome to the Neighbourhood Program offers a free community arts facilitation training introduction to any qualifying newcomer artist who is curious about how to turn their artistic practice into a community arts program and earn additional income.
Foundational training is open to any qualifying newcomer (permanent resident, international student, work permit holder, refugee claimants), who has a creative practice. Completing the foundational training sessions makes you eligible for a Newcomer Artist Ambassadorship the following year, which is awarded to participants who demonstrate the most commitment and readiness for the field. An ambassadorship comes with funding and many hours of one-on-one support to advance you into the field of Community Arts in Toronto.
This year’s foundational newcomer artists training in community arts sessions take place in November 2024 (west side) or February 2025 (east side). Each session is 3 total workshops, one per week.
