Location: 38 Mabelle Avenue

As a Community Arts Coordinator on Mabelle Avenue, you will work closely with program leads, lead artists and other lead facilitators to support our In Bloom! Summer festival programs. You will also lead an ensemble of first time and emerging youth staff and volunteers. Together, you will realize a series of landscape, food security and public art creation projects on Mabelle Avenue. All CACs will be responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to work and play; and help lead other young people to make beautiful things happen on Mabelle Avenue.

We have 3 Community Arts Coordinator positions, each with their own area of focus: Outreach & Communications, Food & Hospitality, and Youth Volunteer Leadership.

General Responsibilities Include:

Program Activities

  • Coordinate Youth Ensemble (Youth Staff and Youth Volunteer) creation days, under the direction of Lead Artists and Landscape Artist

  • Coordinate youth-led gardening, landscaping and maintenance of Mabelle Park

    Coordinate youth-led beautification and animation of Mabelle Park for special events

  • Ensure all safety measures and protocols are always practiced by youth staff and volunteers

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of program participants

  • Support special events for people of all ages in Mabelle Park

  • Ensure indoor and outdoor spaces remain well-maintained

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Coordinating and Scheduling Community Development Worker Onboarding and ongoing Training Activities

  • Facilitating Summer youth Weekly Evaluation Sessions and One-on-One Check-Ins

  • Reporting to the Co-Directors with team progress and needs Administration and Communications

  • Participant intake tracking and reporting

  • Maintaining and building contact lists

  • Coordinating program outreach by phone calls, posters/flyers and social media campaigns

  • Scheduling and room bookings

  • Workshop plan creation & coordination

Skills & Experience Required:

  • A strong role model: Responsible, Punctual, helpful, positive with a friendly and cooperative manner with others

  • Experience in Youth engagement and leadership

  • Able to motivate others and facilitate groups to and meet challenges and find solutions.

  • Enjoy working with people; supportive and patient

  • Strong team member, able to model and support collaboration

  • Strong communication skills

  • Communications and/or Creative Arts, training and/or experience

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

  • Computer Skills: Google Drive competency, Design and Editing Software

  • Social media skills including facility with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • Multi-lingual an asset

  • Manual labour and lifting ability is an asset

  • A valid G-class driver’s license is an asset

  • Must be committed to working through a lens of anti-racism and anti-oppression

  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality of community members at all times

Additional Responsibilities by areas of focus: 

Outreach & Communications: 

  • Social media posts that meaningfully engage our audiences 

  • Supporting promotion campaigns under the directions of the Operations Manager

  • Supporting summer youth with audio visual storytelling

  • Adhere to Mabelle Arts design assets, funder and partner requirements (logos, visual depictions), ensuring timely approvals from partners and funders. 

Food & Hospitality

  • Planning and preparing nutritious, snacks and beverages for festival participants and audiences

  • Supporting youth staff to safely and kindly prepare and serve food. 

  • Food safety best practices at all times 

  • Working beside other food support staff

Youth Staff & Volunteer Coordination: 

  •  Providing Sensitive and communicative Mentorship to newer staff and youth volunteers in their first employment experience

  • Managing youth schedules, communications and planning, team check-ins and field notes. 

  •  Delivering and coordinating workplace training modules to youth teams.
