Please read this badly researched piece in the Toronto Star! Jack Lakey, aka “The Fixer” takes aim at the park wading pool without uncovering the facts!
1. TCHC and MABELLEarts are providing hours of programming for people of all ages in the Mabelle Park. To date, over 150 kids and over 200 adults from the Mabelle neighbourhood have participated in our many outdoor projects, including:
- two large community gardens
- a community bake oven made of cob
- bench repair and ongoing garbage clean up
- a covered trellis for rain protection and outdoor movie screenings
- as well as countless neighbourhood celebrations, feasts and events
2. Mabelle residents are spending over 1000 volunteer hours to make their park better. This article completely dishonours their hard work! Mabelle kids ages 5 to 15 have been at the centre of this transformation and have also benefited from countless hours of free programming delivered by professional artists.
3. There is a fully functioning wading pool around the corner from the park, which is why fixing this one was not part of the neighbourhood plan. Instead, we are planning to develop a multi-use gazebo that will provide coverage to the ongoing Mabelle Farmers Market, as well as serving as a stage for outdoor theatre.
Thanks for your support!

MABELLE needs you! $1, $2, $5, $10 can make a huge difference. Your cash will plant a seed, paint a picture, tell a story, make MABELLE beautiful.

The people who write and photograph for the Toronto Star are
totally incompetent. I have never seen so many mistakes (grammatical and factual) in any publication in my life! They are only slightly better than The Toronto Sun.
